LEGO gifts with purchase: what the market pays for 17 free sets since 2024, and the Venice water taxi

What we know about the 40898, and what we don't

• Certain: 322 pieces, 2 minifigures (Hoth Bricks and Stonewars agree).
• Certain: free with the 11388 Venice, no spending threshold, from November 1 (LEGO Insiders access).
• Unknown: the end date. The two sources contradict each other, even within the same article.
• Unknown: an official value. A single source gives a figure we couldn't find on the French side.

17 gifts, a median of €31.95

Of the 17 gifts with purchase released since 2024 with at least 5 new sales on BrickLink Europe, the median average sale is €31.95. Half resell between €27.11 and €65.61. Together they total 1,162 new sales over 6 months: these items do change hands.

What makes the gap: the licence

The table almost reads itself. At the top: Pokémon, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings. At the bottom: in-house gifts — seasonal, small castles, northern lights. The 9 licensed gifts have a median of €65.61. The 8 unlicensed ones, €23.09. Almost three times less.

How we measured

• Gifts: 40xxx and 30xxx references released in 2024, 2025 and 2026, classified "Promotional" or "Gift with Purchase" in the Cault catalogue, with at least 5 new sales.
• Price: average new sale over 6 months, BrickLink Europe, in euros, readings from September 29 to October 22, 2026.
• No gap to a "value" is calculated: a gift has no list price.

My take

A gift with purchase isn't a discount. It's an extra item whose value depends on buyers who don't exist yet. The figures show they often do exist, sometimes paying a lot when a licence is involved. But don't factor a gift's resale into a €500 purchase: if Venice doesn't appeal to you on its own, a water taxi won't change that.
